I’m 22 weeks pregnant with severe back pain.
I have tried ice packs, heat packs, hot shower pounding on my back, changing positions and walking around. My partner works nights so I can’t get him to give me a massage. What else can I do to relieve the pain?
I really felt it in my back and hips even early on this last time. The doc said I need to wear supportive shoes and also do stretches. It could be the baby weight so if you are able to stand in a pool and feel that boyency its great! The weightlessness is niiiice:)
You can look into gentle adjustments with a trained massage therapist or chiroprator. Just make sure that they are certified to do prenatal care or it can be damaging. You may have something out of place. So much goes on as the baby grows… i know all about that.
Lay with pillows to your hips are supported. Make sure there is one between your knees and put them where you need for your back. Hips and back are connected. Chances are you will feel it in your hips too if not already.
I would not suggest having anyone pound on your back as that can be dangerous. Do talk to your doc or nurse/midwife. They may have some more suggestions. My doc also had me get a maternity belt and I found that helpful. You can do that or wrap an ace bandage. Crossing in front and then the back however many times it fits. Support is nice and can relieve back pain.
All in all you just have to try different things. It could be something out of whack, could be muscle pain or pinched nerve. It could just be the weight of the baby. Try to sit up straight when you’re sitting. My doc reminds me that good posture helps too. I agree with the tub idea just make sure the water is warm and not hot.. obviously:)
Sorry you’re hurting. I pray you get some relief soon.
Best of luck and blessings
Many times when women are pregnant, they will have many problems with their sciatica nerve acting up. When a pregnant woman has problems with her sciatic nerve, it usually starts on the lower back or buttocks and then travels down the back of the legs as well as down in the calves and heels.

I just found out I’m pregnant and have been experiencing pain in my lower back. Is this also something caused by hormones, as many other early pregnancy symptoms seem to be?
Back pain will come when your baby is much larger and your joints and muscles are carrying all the extra weight. You probably just slept wrong or are a little more in tuned with your body right now since you are expecting and noticing the few little aches you may have overlooked before. Take a nice walk if you haven’t been told to take it easy by your doctor and you’ll loosen up.
Congratulations!
I’m currently 24 weeks pregnant and for the past two days Ive been having major lower back pain… is there anything i can do for it? Ive tried sleeping with a pillow in between my knees but it still is unbearable. What can i do to help relieve this?
In 24 weeks pregnancy development the continuous to grow more proportional At this time you will be experiencing more kicks. The changes in your body causes you to feel more back pains.
Kegel exercise is also good during pregnancy. It helps childbirth easier. Another thing you can use is the belly belt.
There is another helpful kit that can help you relieve back pain. Posture brace corrector was introduced to me by a family friend and she said it is safe and effective. I have read the product reviews too and there are many people who are now using this and so happy with the outcome.
normal stretching pain or if its pain from you surgery plus stretching pain? i have chronic back pain i was just wondering if ill be able to tell when i go into labor later on if i have back labor or not? plus with the stretching pain i had an eptopic surgically removed in May and now im having the normal pregnancy cramping and stretching pains plus its alittle more in the area where i had my surgery? its not bad its just something i was wondering about.
It can be hard to tell the difference. The achiness that late pregnancy can cause in your lower back is going to be very similar to chronic back pain. The kind of back pain you can get when labor is close or during labor, is a more deep kind of ache, more like your getting your period, but can be worse; it feels more internal, if that helps. For me, it was like a combination of feeling like I was getting the flu and having my period, but concentrated in the back (I’m talking the pre-labor and labor back discomfort here).
I’m 28 weeks pregnant with twins and last night I woke up with an intense pain in the middle of my back. This pain extended down my sides and across my upper abdomen and wouldn’t go away when I changed positions. After about an hour of back rubbing from my husband it finally started to fade and I went back to sleep. Question is what could it be? It didn’t feel like contractions and the pain was in the middle of my back and upper abdomen not my lower back and lower abdomen. I plan on addressing it with the doc at my next appt in a week, unless it could be a sign of something serious. What do you think?
You didn’t say which side the pain was on. If it’s upper right quadrant pain, then you should give your doctor a call to discuss. Most likely it’s nothing–it could be baby movements, or your organs getting squished to make room for the baby–but upper right quadrant pain can sometimes be more serious.
Pay attention to the pain, see if it continues, or if it’s worse after you eat. There’s a possibility that it’s indicating a problem with your liver or gallbladder. Don’t panic, because those problems are not life-threatening or baby-threatening, but they do need to be dealt with, and should definitely be mentioned to your doctor.
Good luck!
Well let me explain what is going on…
Well me and my husband have never had a kid before
i do not use birth control either
and what happened is me and my husband had sex like a week before i got my period.. Then my period ended and i started getting really bad stomach cramps in my lower stomach i thought it was just from the food i was eating but i continued to get them the next day.. I also have really intense back pain in my lower back and i am feeling extremely tired and this has been going on for two days… I have had back pain since i was 14 but its because i have a slight case of scoliosis and i get back pain usually when i get my period but otherwise i am fine i just don’t know what could be causing all this intense back pain and major fatigue and stomach cramps is there a chance i could be pregnant?
anytime you have unprotected sex there’s a chance to get pregnant. Wait until you are supposed to get your period if you don’t get it take a test and then you’ll know. Don’t take a test before you will just be wasting your money.
Gook luck.
I’m looking for tips on what you’ve found works.
I’ve tried heat, doesn’t touch the pain.
I’ve had my husband massage my back and while hes massaging it, its gone but as soon as he stops.
As much as I dont want to take tylenol, I did this morning and gave me about an hour and a half of relief. (i dont like taking drugs if I dont have to….i know tylenol is safe! so i may have to keep taking it!)
What have you found helps?
I’m 24w and it just started 2 days ago. I was hoping I’d be lucky with no back pain..haha ya right.
Thanks!
I use to do the exercise’s for back pain when pregnant. You can find them online or ask your doctor for a list. Also, there is a pregnancy band that holds the stomach up and takes the pressure off of the back. It supports the weight of the baby. It helped me very well.
I think i have a tilted or tipped uterus because i sometimes feel pain during intercourse. I’m pregnant and i heard that if you have a tilted uterus then you may have more severe back pain!!! :0
Is this true? I’m 13 weeks pregnant.
Hi,
I was told by my doctor years ago when I had scans done for stomach problems that my Uterus was tilted….. I had a baby 4 months ago…. I had very little back pain during my pregnancy and at that it was only when the bump got big and I had slept in an weird position the night before (happens alot when ya have a bump the size and weight of two bowling balls hehe!).
I gave birth naturally, thank god…. and although my labor was mostly in my back…. (you know you can have front or back labor???) it wasn’t more painful (I Imagine) just because I have tilt….. I wouldn’t worry about it until the pain happens…… because It might not…..
And besides all the above…… You do tend to forget most of it when you hold your baby!!! I remember thinking I was the longest pregnant person ever to exist ever in the world… haha!! I had the biggest bump ever anyone ever had seen in the world and I was ready from week 37 to just be done with pregnancy….. haha all mothers do feel like that but Its not because you have a tilted uterus…. if this was the case some doctor somewhere would figure out a cure for us unfortunates… hehe!! Good Luck!
